Prokaryotic protein expression systems (e.g. E. coli) have the advantage of being fast, high yield, and affordable; often suitable for large-scale protein production.
You can improve the expression level of soluble proteins through several different methods, some being codon optimization, changing the expression host strain, and adjusting the expression conditions (e.g., temperature, medium components, etc.)
In the E. coli expression system, some exogenous proteins may form inclusion bodies due to misfolding. This is mainly due to the complex structure or toxicity of the exogenous proteins.
